EV Incentives by State (2026)
The era of cash rebates for electric vehicles is largely over. Across most of the country the upfront subsidies and stamp duty exemptions that drove early adoption have closed, and only a handful of states still offer anything EV-specific. What remains is mostly a matter of treatment rather than cash: how an electric vehicle is rated for stamp duty and registration, which in a few states still works out cheaper than for a comparable petrol or diesel car.
We list every state and territory here, and each state page shows the closed schemes alongside the active ones, with the date each scheme ended, because people still search for incentives that have since wound up and deserve a straight answer on their status. One benefit sits outside all of this: the federal fringe benefits tax exemption on eligible electric vehicles, which is a Commonwealth measure delivered through novated leasing, not a state scheme, and is not part of the state-by-state status shown here.

Most cash rebates have closed; what remains is mostly duty and rego treatment. Every state page lists closed schemes too, with closure dates, because they still get searched for.
