Demerit Points & Fines in Tasmania (2026-27)

12 points on a full licence triggers suspension

12–15 points within 3 years = 3-month suspension (longer at higher tallies).

Transport Tasmania offence list at the 2026-27 penalty unit · 2026-27 schedule

Tasmania does not operate a double-demerit scheme, so points stay the same regardless of the time of year. Its fines are set as multiples of a penalty unit rather than as fixed dollar amounts, and because the value of that unit is re-indexed each year, every fine tied to it moves at the same time; the schedule effectively refreshes annually even when no offence has changed.

Tasmania is also notable for penalising speeding from the very lowest band: even a small margin over the limit carries points, where some other states attach points only once the margin is larger. The version shown here is marked with the date it was drawn from.
